Fuji Heavy Industries Ltd. unveiled the Subaru XV concept at the 2011 Auto Shanghai. They are calling it a “crossover” but we think that due to the smaller size, it feels more like a large hatchback. The glass roof is very nice, as is the interior. Read more on this vehicle at Cartype.

The 1977 Chrysler Alpine was quite boastful that year, claiming to be the world’s first seven-day-a-week car that starts like a Rolls Royce with it’s electronic ignition. The 1995 Peugeot 205 Mardi Gras was available as a 3 and 5 door hatchback with a choice of a 1.1 litre or 1.6 litre petrol automatic or a 1.8 litre and 1.8 litre turbo diesel. It features boasted unique “Mardi Gras” graphics, tinted glass all around, a pop-up sunroof and a tailgate was/wipe.

The Austin Maestro Vanden Plas models were top of the range and included all options. It had a 1600 OHC engine with a five-speed manual transmission. The Renault 16 is a hatchback produced by French automaker Renault between 1965 and 1980 in Le Havre, France. The reviewer in the May 1965 edition of the English “Motoring Illustrated” said: “The Renault Sixteen can thus be described as a large family car but one that is neither a four door saloon and nor is it quite an estate. But, importantly, it is a little different.”
The Renault 16 was voted European Car of the Year by a board of European motoring journalists in 1966. It was the third year of the accolade’s existence, and the Renault 16 was the first French winner of the award.
Over 1,845,959 R16s were produced during a production which lasted for some 15 years.

This IZH 2125 5-door hatchback I believe is from Russia. It had a carburated 4-cylinder that developed 72hp with a four-speed manual transmission.

I continue to be mystified why there is a belief that Americans won’t buy hatchbacks. Maybe it’s true, but everyone I ask seems to like them as much as I do. That said, the Chevrolet Cruze hatchback will not be offered in the U.S. market. More info at Cartype.

The front end is developed around a “trilobe shape” and features a brand-new interpretation of the classic Alfa grille, set into the front bumper and suspended between the two air intakes. The entire car develops from here to combine a lively personality with an elegant form. The front headlamps implement LED technology and a Daytime Running Lights (DRL) function for maximum active safety.
The profile of the Alfa Romeo Giulietta is rich in personality and confers the appearance of an agile, solid model. This is above all the result of the coupé shaped side windows, which highlight dynamic and streamlined shape, and of the concealed rear handles. The side ribbing adds to the car’s slender look, while the taut lines closing in on the rear end accentuate the “wedge” shape of the body.
The style of the rear end, like that of the front and the side, is strong and consolidates the impression of a muscular car, firmly gripped to the road. Like the headlamps, the rear light clusters implement LED technology, to the advantage of preventive safety, in addition to good looks.

The Alfa Romeo Giulietta guarantees top level performance and next-generation technology in terms of technical solutions, performance and environmental friendliness. Four Turbo engines will be available at launch, all Euro 5 compliant and fitted with a standard “Start&Stop” system for reducing consumption and emissions: two petrol engines (1.4TB – 120 HP and 1.4TB MultiAir – 170 HP) and two diesel engines (1.6 JTDM – 105 HP and 2.0 JTDM – 170 HP, both belonging to the second generation of JTDM engines). Finally, the range is completed with the lively 1750 TBi – 235 HP with an exclusive Quadrifoglio Verde configuration.
