We just love hatchbacks.

The Volkswagen GTi usually takes the spotlight off the more powerful R, but this 2014 rocket will get you from 0 to 62 mph in 4.9 seconds powered by a newly designed 296-horsepower TSI® engine, which is 30 hp stronger but up to 18 per cent more fuel efficient than the engine in the previous model. GTD – these three letters say it all. They stand for “Gran Turismo Diesel” – the long-distance express car of the Golf range. Now there is a new Volkswagen Golf GTD, and this 5-door’s 2.0-litre turbo diesel get 184 PS and up to 380 Nm torque, a combined fuel consumption of just 4.2 l/100 km and CO2 emissions of just 109 g/km, this sporty and sharply designed GTD is more powerful, fuel-efficient and lower-emitting than ever.
Volkswagen celebrates the fact that the Scirocco has broken through the magical sound barrier for a sports car of one million built vehicles in 2013 with the Scirocco Million, painted exclusively in “Deep Black Metallic ”. We are huge fans of this car and can’t understand why the brand has chosen, once again, to ignore the US market. It will be sold exclusively in Germany and China.
As you’ve probably noticed, we tend to favor the classic hatches here, but while the new 2014 Ford Fiesta ST 5-door hatchback will be a bit pricey, it delivers class-leading performance with 197 HP. With an aggressive, sporty design, this ride is Ford’s newest contribution to the world of hot hatches. Fiesta ST offers a 6.5-inch MyFord Touch® screen, unique ST high-mounted rear spoiler, interior trim accents, leather shift knob and seats for that race car feel.
The Volkswagen Golf GTi is almost universally loved in every generation, but the ABT designers and engineers have been working on the seventh generation of the GTi and the result is a car that leaves nothing to be desired and is a real eye-catcher called the ABT Golf VII GTI.
The 2012 Volkswagen Golf GTI concept was shown at the 2012 Mondial de l’Automobile in Paris and for the first time, is being offered with two power levels (220 PS in standard version and 230 PS with performance pack) when it goes on sale in early 2013. This is the hatch that made them cool. Nothing comes close to this on the market today, and it still looks great, even after seven generations.
Hyundai introduced the all-new 2013 Elantra GT at the North American debut of the 2012 Chicago Auto Show. The all-new Elantra GT rides on a 104.3-inch wheelbase and has an overall length of 169.3 inches. The height is 57.9 inches and the width is 70.1 inches.
This vehicle has been around for a long time, so we would fault for not believing that this is a 2012 Lada Taiga LKW. It looks old, but has its own personality and is probably fun to run around in.
BMW has not only thrown in a few new ideas this year, but they’ve also done it via a new brand. The i Division offers us this beautiful and futuristic hatchback called the i3. The electric motor over the rear axle – which generates output of 125 kW/170 hp and impressive torque of 250 Nm (184 lb-ft) from a standstill – and a small turning circle combine to deliver pleasingly agile driving characteristics. The BMW i3 Concept accelerates from 0 to 60 km/h (37 mph) in under four seconds and from rest to 100 km/h (62 mph) in less than eight seconds.
The MG5 Concept represents an exciting new chapter in MG’s history. This five-door hatchback was developed at MG Birmingham under the UK Design Director, Tony Williams-Kenny. The new model was recently unveiled at the Beijing Motor Show, where it received much critical acclaim. The main features of the car include LED head cluster lights, rear spoiler stance and an aerodynamic shape, all of which offer a look that’s both sporty and sophisticated. (source: MG)
The 2012, 14-foot long i-oniq hatchback concept is an unexpected and pleasant surprise from Hyundai. It is an electric sport hatchback with a range-extending gasoline engine. The 1,0-litre, 3-cylinder petrol engine generates a maximum of 45 kW (61 ps). This unit is mated to an 80 kW (109 ps) lithium-ion electric motor which is powered by a 55 kW generator, via a single ratio gearbox.
Its great to see BMW bring this to the US, a market where most think hatchbacks do not sell. This M 135i is the highlight of the 1-series second body variant, although, in my view, I think the headlights seem a bit too big. Its 3-litre, straight six-cylinder engine achives 235 kW/320 hp and is even available as a five-door hatch.
